Cycling Gear

Okay, so you’ve decided you want to be a cyclist, you have the bike and now, you need to know what type of gear you need. The type of gear you should get will all depend on you (some cyclers, for example, want cycling glasses, while others do not). Today, we are going to tell you about the common cycling gear …
Helmet
First things first, you definitely need a helmet to protect your head. Think of the helmet as if it were a seatbelt. Of course, we’re not saying you need to go out and purchase the most expensive helmet on the block – you can go for something that is cheap, but there are some things you need to look for. For starters, you shouldn’t purchase a used helmet or one that is older than three years. You see, with a used helmet, you’re not sure what has happened to them and after three years, the foam inside them may break and they won’t be as effective.
Sunglasses
Yes, we understand, you may be the type that doesn’t want to wear sunglasses for a variety of reasons, but this is something that all cyclers should wear. We recommend sunglasses, because not only do you need to protect your eyes from the sun, you also need to protect them from dust, dirt and a wide list of projectiles you may encounter while riding your bike. When shopping for sunglasses, for the best protection from the sun, you want to block out 75 to 90 percent of the light and around 45 percent on dull days. Look at the specs on the glasses – they should indicate their transmission factor or light-absorption qualities. There are various cycling glasses that will allow you to change the lenses in order fo them to adjust to environmental conditions.
Jersey and Shorts
When you are out buying your first cycling outfit, keep in mind that you will need quality padding so that you don’t feel any pain while you’re riding for a long period of time. There are stylish, yet comfortable cycling jersey and shorts that you can wear. Many recommend bib shorts, because they are both comfortable and slimming. When purchasing your cycling jersey, go for something that will make you visible – you can find ones that are reflective.
Gloves
As a cycler, you will need to wear gloves. If you don’t wear gloves during a long ride, your hands will suffer. If you fall off your bike and you aren’t wearing gloves, you’ll hurt your palms. So, point blank, if you plan on riding that bike, wear those gloves.
