When things don’t go as expected …

I’m gobsmacked. Absolutely stunned. Scratching my head in bewilderment and wonder.

Saturday everything was perfectly fine. 3000km of power data nicely and neatly saved in date order in the PowerAgent program.

Yesterday everything was gone. 3000km of power data files wiped out. User ‘Groover’ disappeared. Empty program.

I checked the hard drive, checked the recycling bin, checked the recovery drive. Gone. Nothing. Nichts.

The very nice guys in IT at work offered to have a look at it tomorrow so I’ll take my laptop to work. They have some fancy data recovery equipment but can’t promise anything … wish me luck!

Anybody ever heard of Powertap’s software eating the power data? Let me know if you have any ideas. And of course I haven’t done any back-ups on any external data storage device, yet.

I have been mulling over something else for a week now. Since Alberto told me last week that he won’t be coming to Bright, I have been worried. I really really really want to race the Tour of Bright but I never even thought about the possibility of going on my own. I always imagined us flying to Melbourne, us driving the four hours northeast of Melbourne to Alpine country, us getting excited and ready for each stage, us cooking dinner and talking race strategies and hanging out with our friends Bruce and Mick in the holiday unit … it took me a while to come to grips with the fact that it will be only me doing all these things.

I checked with Bruce and Mick and I can get a lift with them from Melbourne to Bright. Under one condition: Since it will be a tight fit in Bruce’s car I’m not allowed to bring spare wheels. There won’t be a support car following the race anyway so I will have to be self sufficient (read: able to change a tube mid-race if worse comes to worst), now I don’t know what wheels to take. My Corima’s, which are perfect for the time trial and good climbing wheels but are tubulars, or the Powertap Open Pro training wheels, which are clinchers and bullet proof but about 50 kg?

So I’m still going but without Alberto and without spare wheels and without knowing, yet, what wheels to take. A set of Campagnolo Hyperon Clinchers would be the perfect solution but is not an option. I haven’t got $5000 spare.

HELP!
